Artist Statement
My art is a testament to the transformative power of beauty and resilience in the face of life's challenges. As someone navigating the complexities of chronic physical conditions like fibromyalgia and asthma, alongside a dissociative disorder, my work becomes a crucial act of self-preservation and discovery. I seek to distill moments of quiet joy, connection, and nature's enduring hope onto paper and canvas, often through the gentle fluidity of watercolor, the vibrant possibilities of acrylic, the grounded texture of natural earth pigments, and the precise construction of cut paper. Each medium offers a unique pathway to explore themes of stability, comfort, and the delicate balance required to thrive. My creative process is a journey towards healing, mirroring the environments and internal states that bring me solace. Through my work, I invite viewers to discover their own havens of peace, reflecting the deep connection between our surroundings and our inner states of being.
Biography
Jessica is a contemplative artist whose practice, spanning watercolor, acrylic, natural earth paint, and cut paper, is intrinsically linked to her journey with complex chronic health conditions, including fibromyalgia, asthma, and a dissociative disorder. She discovered art as a profound means of expression, stability, and healing, particularly as environmental factors proved to be significant triggers for her physical pain and respiratory distress, and as a creative outlet for managing internal complexities.
With a background in graphic design, Jessica approaches each piece with a thoughtful understanding of composition and a meticulous attention to the subtle nuances of color and form, adapting her approach to the unique qualities of each chosen medium. Her work frequently depicts scenes of quiet harmony, whether through the enduring strength of sunflowers, the gentle companionship of felines, or the serene dance of dragonflies, serving as visual meditations on comfort, resilience, and the possibility of finding internal calm. These pieces are not merely illustrations; they are deeply personal reflections of the artist's longing for an external environment where consistent warmth, abundant natural light, and gentle, moving air can provide profound physical relief and foster greater mental stability and integration.
Jessica currently creates from her studio in Quincy, Massachusetts, dedicating her practice to capturing moments of peace while actively pursuing the realization of a life vision centered on environmental alignment and holistic self-sufficiency in a more therapeutic climate.
